Typically, when you think of a software development company, a huge conglomerate
comes to mind rather than familiar faces of those behind the scenes. While QiSOFT
is an international company with offices in the UK, mainland Europe and the US,
we remain a family owned company that will always place personal service as the
cornerstone of all that we do. So who are the people behind the technology? From
administrators to engineers, programmers to sales professionals and more, here we
proudly introduce you to a few members of our team we’re sure you’ll get to know
very soon – if you don’t already.
Kevin Luxton
Founder and CEO
We’re sure there’s an image that immediately comes to mind when you think of the
stereotypical software company founder. Kevin is definitely not that.
Better known around the office as the Grand Pooh-Bah or Supreme Commander, Kevin,
once a DJ in his youth, is a native of Portsmouth, England who began his career
in an electronic engineering apprenticeship at Marconi Space and Defense. He then
spent a few years in computer sales (proving he is a brainiac who can also carry
on a conversation) before moving into heavy electrical work as an electrical start-up
engineer with Bechtel, a construction company based in Houston, Texas.
It was while at Bechtel, working at offices in both Saudi Arabia and later Indonesia,
that Kevin was first exposed to control systems and software, which led to a healthy
curiosity in programming. That curiosity soon developed into a full-blown passion
as over the next few years Kevin designed his own computer-based maintenance management
systems while working as Project Manager for a North Sea oil technical services
company.
The rest as they say, is QiSOFT history (ok, we threw the company name in there
but it seemed appropriate). Kevin continues to develop software solutions and has
now been in the States for more than 10 years but, alas, according to all of his
American colleagues, still talks funny.
When not writing lines of code, developing new programs and giving everyone in the
office a good-hearted hard time, Kevin puts his chef skills to work, often trying
out new recipes on willing participants. He also loves soccer and rugby (a diehard
Portsmouth fan) and when in northern England can be found enjoying a walk in the
Lake District.
He is the proud father of two grown children, daughter Kelly Hardy, who
joined the QiSOFT Team in May as Global Marketing Director, and son Sam Luxton
who spends the majority of his time in the West Coast office as the company’s Online
Media Director.
Is Kevin your typical software CEO? No. Then again, QiSOFT isn’t your typical
software company either (thank goodness).
Tim Perris
Business Development Manager
If you operate in Europe, Tim’s your man. As the Business Development Manager for
QiSOFT, Tim is responsible for customer management across Europe. Sounds like a
lot, and it is, but Tim is up for the task. From providing project management to
offering training and support, the ultimate goal of Tim’s efforts is to make a real
difference in clients’ performance and bottom line.
After obtaining his degree in marketing and engineering, Tim
worked for Hewlett Packard in Europe, developing his skills in customer account
management. It wasn’t long before he earned his masters degree in information management
and soon found himself working for a major paper manufacturer, specifically in the
IT department, where he implemented projects that delivered cost and performance
improvements.
In 2000 QiSOFT was lucky enough to bring Tim on board where he jumped in with both
feet assisting customers to resolve complex business challenges by leveraging the many
applications of the QiSOFT Manufacturing Intelligence Suite.
Outside of the office, Tim enjoys the great outdoors and can be found scaling mountain
peaks or mountain biking – albeit at a comfortable pace. He also continues to contribute
to the local community through his work as a School Governor and as a member of
the local church.
Mike Denny
Technical Manager
Got a question, need a tech tip, have a gut feeling that your software could do
so much more? Ask Mike! Mike is one of those guys who has walked in the customers’
shoes so he knows what they want and is committed to delivering it better than anyone.
He came to QiSOFT in 2006 after a 20-year career at TAPPI, The Technical Association
of the Pulp and Paper Industry. There, Mike was responsible for building systems
to assist the TAPPI staff as well as its 40,000 members to more easily and efficiently
do their jobs (sound familiar?).
With QiSOFT, Mike’s primary responsibility is implementation of the Manufacturing Suite’s core
module, QIS, including support and training for customers in the US and Latin America.
While his duties require quite a bit of travel, Mike says meeting customers around
the world makes it all worthwhile.
When he’s not saving the world from dated software systems and lackluster productivity,
Mike enjoys running and just about anything that gets his heart pumping. Mike grew
up a Navy brat so the idea of a hometown team was a little foreign to him, though
he is a diehard Detroit Red Wing hockey fan (even in ’72, when they weren’t so good)
as well as a Jacksonville Jaguar football fan.
Colin Marney
Software Development Manager
Colin was one of the early pioneers of QiSOFT, often tackling programming hurdles
in the local pub while drinking 3 for £1 Guinness Cream Ale with founder,
Kevin Luxton. In fact, he was the first employee of the company, hired to develop
QIS and MQM software.
Today Colin is in charge of development at QiSOFT working with his team to ensure
all design goals are achieved. His love for gadgets and all things computer-related
followed him throughout his academic endeavors where he excelled in mathematics,
physics and computer studies.
Does this self-proclaimed geek do anything other than computers? Actually, yes!
Colin shows his true European colors enjoying a spirited game of badminton and cricket
any chance he gets.
